What I do at Grace:
I am the Director of Nurses / Alternate Administrator
How many years have you been with Grace?
10 yrs
What do you like about working for Grace?
What I like is the difference in working for a privately owned company like Grace Visiting Nurses where our owner has a group of administrative staff that make decisions together for the good of our patients, employees and company vs. large corporation where decision making is made on broader scale and passed down. Our administrative team has different strengths and we are comfortable consulting with one another to ultimately give our patients the best care possible.
We also have the ability to access our owner for quick advice and decision making that is an asset that larger corporations don’t have.
Describe the most rewarding or satisfying experience since you started at Grace:
I think that would be my own personal realization of how much I enjoy working in Home Health. I was a hospital nurse for 15+ years and was just going to try out home health to see if I liked it. Meeting and caring for patients in an acute setting like the hospital can be satisfying but getting to know them in their own home for a more extended time can truly be rewarding. The best experiences is getting to know and talk to the older adults you meet and listen to their life experiences. You never know what you will hear or the stories that will spark every emotion you can think of, about their lives, their children, and grandchildren, all their memories of times past. And you never forget the stories or the people that told them to you.
Why did you choose nursing as a profession?
My aunt was a nurse and I always looked up to her and wanted to be just like her. I loved to hear her talk about the people she took care of at work.
What is your perfect day?
Waking up early, drinking coffee with my husband and planning our life and future home.
What do you consider to be your greatest skill?
I’m comfortable in the patients’ home and have always felt that I am able to communicate well with the elderly population. My background is in case management and I enjoy problem solving with patient issues and getting down to the core of the matter and hopefully presenting solutions that are appropriate and acceptable to the patient and family.
Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve had?
Other than a nurse…. Nothing really stands out. I would have to say that being a Mom is the most unusual and interesting job I do besides nursing.
What are your hobbies:
Reading, Family functions, concerts, love the movies
What is something unique that most people don’t know about you?
Probably not much, but I have always wanted to be a writer.
